Library News

Sept 20, 2010:

The Rainier Library has just been awarded $20,000 in new books from the Pacific Northwest Bookseller's Association

The Pacific Northwest Bookseller's Association (www.pnba.org) is pleased to announce that Rainier Volunteer Library is the recipient of the Michael Pritikin Rural Library Program award for 2010!  Last year, material worth approximately $20K was donated  -- while this amount tends to fall each year, so expect 35-50 large boxes of books.  During the fall trade show on Friday, October 8 and Saturday, October 9 in Portland, OR, all material is collected and boxed by myself and other volunteers.  Ideally, the nominating bookstore (Thank you, Orca books for stepping up!) and/or the recipient library also helps to process these books.  You will need to arrange to transport the boxes from the convention center on Saturday afternoon (2-ish, usually).  A large pick-up or small u-haul type trailer should be sufficient.  Like all large donations, the quality of the books is all over the map, though most tend to be new releases.  There will also be some duplicates.  A ‘Friends of the Library’ book sale may be in order once you have unpacked everything!
